Honest Game Reviews, Random Thoughts & News

The End of the Horizon Franchise Is Nowhere on the Horizon

Fans of Horizon Zero Dawn and its successor Horizon Forbidden West do not have to worry that they will have to say goodbye to Guerrilla Games’ creation with the third part. In the words of the developer, the franchise will continue “for a very long while.”

With how Horizon Forbidden West ended, a third part was inevitable. That was so certain that I didn’t even bother writing an article about it when it was officially announced back in May. After all, you also won’t find an article on here saying that the sun will rise tomorrow.

In any case, the latest news is definitely newsworthy. Studio director Jan Bart van Beek (a beautiful, typical Dutch name) revealed during the Develop:Brighton conference that Guerrilla Games has no less than 16(!!!) plans for new Horizon developments.

“As people probably already know, we’re also going to be working on a multiplayer game.” Jan Bart van Beek describes this as a massive shift for the studio, “almost on the same level as doing the first Horizon.”

Earlier this year, Guerrilla Games spread their Wings of the Ten when they released their first spin-off game with the VR title ‘Horizon Call of the Mountain’.

In addition to the games we can expect, things like the upcoming Horizon Netflix TV series are likely to fall under the mentioned 16.

As you can read in my review of the Horizon Forbidden West DLC Burning Shores, I was particularly impressed with the graphical power that Guerrilla Games conjured up on screen. I’m curious to see how this aspect will develop even further in the coming years. Hopefully they can bring some more life to the party, because in my opinion the story would benefit from a big shake-up.

Are you happy with this news, or do you think 16 new projects is a bit too much? Let me know below!
