The fantasy film Chupa, not to be confused with the lolly, was shown in an official trailer yesterday.
Additionally, Netflix also released a poster for the movie. We can start watching it on the streaming platform from April 7th.
Chupa means “to suck” in Spanish, but that’s not what this film is about (sorry to disappoint you. Just suck it up). The movie revolves around the shy 13-year-old Alex, who visits his family in Mexico for the first time. There, he discovers a young chupacabra, a mythical creature he recognizes from stories about fully grown, terrifying versions of them. The two become friends, and Alex learns that Chupa shares a secret history with his family. Of course, a suspense element cannot be missed. The dangerous scientist Richard Quinn is hunting the creature and hopes to harness its powers. It is up to Alex to protect his new friend from the threats.
Chupa seems to be a real feel-good family film. A kind of Christmas movie, but without the Christmas lights and music. It seems to be a modern version of E.T. And just like its alien counterpart, Chupa is incredibly endearing. Don’t believe me? Check out the trailer here:
