After the recent mega release of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, our nostalgic hearts can continue to beat rapidly. On June 21st, the Nintendo Direct took place, announcing that the new 2D platformer Super Mario Bros. Wonder will arrive on Nintendo Switch on October 20th.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the first completely new 2D game in over a decade featuring the beloved Italian plumber. The trailer showcases a wide variety of gameplay, and it appears that fans will be rewarded for their long wait.
Playable Characters and New Upgrades
In Super Mario Bros. Wonder, players will be able to hop around with multiple characters. Mario, Luigi, Toad, Peach, Daisy, and Yoshi are all playable characters. The latter can not only be used in a playable version, but also as a mount.
Nintendo mentioned that the game begins when Mario touches a so-called Wonder Flower, which changes the world around him. Throughout the game, this will be a recurring mechanic that also turns the gameplay upside down. Suddenly, the pipes start twisting, and we see a tall, stretched silhouette form of Mario. To top it all off, right at the end of the trailer, after picking up a new power-up, he even transforms into an elephant.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder also features 4-player co-op, so players can embark on the new adventure with their friends.
Mario fans were definitely spoiled during the Nintendo Direct. In addition to the announcement of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, a remake of Super Mario RPG was also revealed. It will be released on November 17, 2023. But that wasn’t the only upgrade in the pipeline. There is also a remaster of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon on the way, as well as a completely new game featuring Princess Peach in the lead role.
