Bethesda‘s new IP Starfield was extensively showcased during today’s Xbox Showcase. On September 6, owners of Xbox Series X/S and Windows can unleash their inner astronaut and explore the first new Bethesda universe in 25 years.
Game director Todd Howard describes the sci-fi action RPG as “Skyrim in space.” Maybe this time we’ll even encounter aliens who have endured an arrow to the knee?
Players can explore a staggering 1,000 planets, divided across 100 star systems. Each planet will feel unique. One contributing factor will be the difference in gravity, which will also play a role during gunfights. Furthermore, you can expect different forms of extraterrestrial life and nature at each location.

As we have come to expect from the developer, you can tackle the numerous quests in multiple ways. Going in guns blazing is always a tempting option. Prefer to play as a more peaceful character? Use your silver tongue to get the job done. Or silently eliminate your enemies and work stealthily. Regardless of what you choose, you can execute it all in either third or first person.
You can buy, customize, and upgrade spaceships. This process appears to be incredibly broad (and, let’s be honest, quite challenging). Modifications not only change the appearance and performance of the ship, but also influence what you can do inside. Think of storage space for your weapons and modules for crafting.

Besides that, you can also design the living quarters and mess halls. After all, a spaceship is nothing without a crew (just ask Shepard), which you will be able to hire yourself.
Starfield takes place in 2330, 20 years after factions the Freestar Collective and the United Colonies, engaged in a fierce conflict known as the Colony War. Your character, created using the detailed character creator, joins Constellation, the last group of space explorers. Constellation is an almost mythical organization that most people aren’t even aware still exists. The group strives to find answers to humanity’s greatest questions. Surprise: they need your help with that.
Check out the deep dive below. Hopefully, you’ll be over the moon with it!
