Warner Bros. Discovery announced yesterday that HBO Max will be rebranded as Max starting from May 23. It has been known for some time that HBO Max and Discovery+ would be merged, and next month it will finally happen. The news was revealed during a press event.

This was not the only news for which the press was gathered. During the presentation, a lot more was revealed, including a first trailer for True Detective: Night Country. We can expect the fourth season of the successful detective series later this year.

True Detective often features big names. The lead actors in the first season were Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. The second season was no exception in terms of star power, with Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, and Vince Vaughn among the key roles. To complete the list, season 3 starred Mahershala Ali.

True Detective: Night Country” doesn’t break the cycle; Jodie Foster takes on the lead role and is also an executive producer. This is the logline for the upcoming series:

“When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”

The trailer shows that we are not going to Alaska to witness the Northern Lights. The icy landscape is home to a chilling case. Moreover, the relationship between Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and her partner Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) seems anything but warm. Kali Reis is a former world champion in professional boxing, so if Jodie is smart, she will keep her cool.

Detectives who carry darkness within them. Partners who don’t get along. A mysterious missing/murder case. All the ingredients are present to look forward to a new season. Hopefully, it can match or even surpass the quality of the first season. As far as I’m concerned, that season is one of the best that this huge genre has to offer.
